As India and the world ring in the New Year with grand festivities, there is some serious news for travelers, especially those traveling to and from North India.
Air India has issued a travel advisory due to “low visibility due to fog in parts of North India, including Delhi, which may affect flight schedules across the network”.
The airline urged passengers to check the status of their flight on the link before leaving for the airport. Travelers have also been urged to contact their helplines +91 11 69329333 / +91 11 69329999 for any assistance.
“Our ‘FogCare’ initiative provides advance notice to passengers on flights most likely to be affected. It offers you the option to either reschedule your flight at no additional cost or receive a full refund,” the airline said in its advisory.
Uncontrollable interference on Wednesday
The warning follows significant disruptions at the Delhi airport on Wednesday, when 78 arrivals and 70 departures were canceled at the airport and two Delhi-bound flights were diverted to other cities due to fog.
IndiGo has also issued a travel advisory that flight movements are likely to be affected till noon. The travel advisory further said that some flights would face potential delays due to foggy weather conditions prevailing in the city and several airports across northern India.
“Foggy conditions remain in Delhi and several airports in North India, with visibility yet to fully improve. As a result, the earlier impact on flight movements is likely to extend into the midday hours and some delays may continue. Please be assured that flight departures and arrivals are sequenced to ensure a smooth and orderly movement while keeping your journey and comfort in mind. Our airport teams are present where you need assistance as you need help because we need help for your patience and understanding and we wish you a comfortable and pleasant journey,” said an IndiGo advisor.
