New ROB, fruit pulp plant, desilting of water bodies required in Tirupattur: IUML MLA

The key demands of the people of Tirupattur are a new level crossing (ROB) to replace the existing manned level crossing (LC 81) near the railway station in Vaniyambadi town, a fruit pulp factory and dewatering of water bodies, said Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) legislative party leader and MLA for Vaniyambadi Assembly constituency, Faro SSP Sqyy.

Mr. Basha highlighted the needs of the people in the districts, including his home constituency, during Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s address in the State Legislature. “The ROB at Vaniyambadi town remains a long-standing demand of the people in the region as the facility will provide easy access to 31 nearby villages to reach other areas. The state government should take immediate steps for the new bridge,” he said.

Currently, the Vaniyambadi railway crossing divides the Old Town in the east and the New Town in the west. The Old Town is a densely populated residential area with three universities, bus stops and a municipality.

New Town which is closer to Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) has almost all basic public facilities. Residents have to wait at the level crossing to get to these facilities, including the government taluk hospital and banks.

Motorists take a detour of at least five km to reach these facilities. Ambulances also have to wait to take patients to the government taluk hospital, which is about 500 meters from the railway station.

Another big demand of the residents, mostly farmers, was the establishment of a fruit pulp factory in the region. Areas like Tirupattur, Jolarpet, Kandali, Alangayam are famous for mango groves. Mr. Basha said the government land in Kumarakuppu village, which was acquired in 1977 for setting up a sandalwood factory, could be used to set up a fruit pulp factory.

Tirupattur region is an arid region and faces water scarcity in summer. Desilting of key water bodies, including Udayendiram, Nagaleri, Rama Naicken Pettai and Goyindapuram, could help store excess rainwater during the monsoon and help recharge groundwater in its vicinity, he said.

The MLA also asked for a pond to be excavated for the Azhagu Perumal temple at Periyapet in Vaniyambadi as part of water conservation efforts. A total of 1.5 acres of temple land could be utilized for the purpose, he said.
