With the launch of the new academic year on Monday, the Municipal Traffic Police of Thiruvananthapuram introduced a number of traffic regulations to ensure the safe and smooth transport of school students and university students throughout the city.
As part of the new arrangements, vehicles carrying students must pick up and postpone and postpone children only at specified safe locations without causing traffic congestion or risking accidents. Parking near schools, including neighboring roads and surrounding areas, will be strictly prohibited. Any vehicles that violate such standards will be towed. In such cases, legal measures will also be initiated, the police warned.
The police also issued instructions to ensure that vehicles should not carry more children than allowed, and must comply with the Motor Vehicles Act, including ownership of valid fitness certificates, permits and all compulsory security elements.
In addition, school vehicles, including school buses, will only have to pick up and discard students in school premises. Parking or waiting on roads near schools or main roads in the city will not be allowed. Vehicles can only come near school zones 30 minutes before the end of the school hours. Drivers have to reduce speed in the school zones and stop for children crossing the road.
Vehicles with heavy goods are not allowed in school zones during school hours and peaks. All vehicles of goods within the city limits must observe the specified time plans. The violators of these rules will be subjected to strict sanctions.
In order to maintain the order and safety of students, all vehicles carrying students should work in the queue system. In addition, each vehicle must have a operator together with the driver. The driver and the operator must be very vigilant and responsible, especially while the children enter or ride a vehicle or cross the road. The police stressed that it is the responsibility of the school authorities to ensure that all necessary measures are introduced.
The operation will be temporarily redirected to roads that are overloaded near the school zones to keep the flow during the top hours.
