Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, August 21, that he had visited the Gaza division to approve the plans of Israeli defensive forces to seize control over the city of Gaza and defeat Hamas. He added that he also ordered officials to initiate immediate negotiations on the release of all hostages and to try to end the war under the conditions acceptable to Israel.
“Today I came to the Gaza Division to approve the plans that IDF submitted to me, and the Minister of Defense to take control of the city of Gaza and the defeat of Hamas,” Netanyahu said. “At the same time, I have ordered me to start immediate negotiations on the release of all our hostages and the end of the war under the conditions acceptable to Israel,” he added.
Netanyah’s announcement came a few days after Hamas said he agreed to a ceasefire proposal that would see how half of the hostage would release and start interviews to end the war and free the rest. It also came when Netanyahu approved plans for military takeover of the city of Gaza.
Although Jerusalem has already approved the framework, Netanyahu now insisted that Israel will only stop fighting in a comprehensive agreement covering all 50 remaining prisoners. It remains unclear whether his Thursday notes that he signaled a real shift in negotiations.
The spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office told the Times of Israel that there were no immediate plans for broadcasting an Israeli delegation, while a higher official later explained that the ambassadors would be sent as soon as it was decided on the venue.
The agreement pushed by the American strange envoy Steve Witkoff would commit a terrorist group to release 10 live hostages and bodies killed by hostages in exchange for a 60 -day ceasefire and the release of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners.
It was proposed that during the ceasefire, the interviews would begin at the permanent end of the war and the release of the remaining 22 hostages, the times of Israel reported.
Israel has previously approved a similar framework, but it still has to answer this offer. Netanyahu did not refuse the framework and left the possibility of negotiating and military escalation.
