Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a high level with higher security officials on Tuesday 5th August to review the possibilities of the ongoing war in Gaza. According to his office, the “limited security discussion” lasted about three hours and included a presentation from the military chief of Staff Eyal Smir about possible other steps.
Media reports suggest that Netanyahu is loaded for complete military takeover of the Gaza belt and reverses the Israeli disconnection of 2005. Channel 12 quoted an official from Netanyahu’s office that the Prime Minister favors inspections over the whole territory.
“We don’t give up any of these missions,” Netanyahu told new military recruits. “It is still necessary to complete the enemy’s defeat in Gaza, release our hostages and ensure that Gaza never pose a threat to Israel again.”
Cabinet to decide on Thursday
The Israeli cabinet is expected to discuss the proposed strategy on Thursday (August 7). The decision -making process also includes Defense Minister Israel Katz and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, close to Netanyahu.
While the Israeli media pointed to a potential full job, Netanyahu’s office refused to comment on the message and remains unclear whether such a step would lead to long -term occupation or short -term insult to the dismantling of Hamas and saving the hostages.
Growing victims and hunger
The debate on the renewed strategy comes because the conditions in Gaza are getting worse. Palestinian healthcare officials reported at least 20 people killed by Israeli shooting while waiting for helping the UN in Northern Gaza, with 20 more injured in the south, near Morag Square in Rafah.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that in the last 24 hours he had died of starvation or malnutrition, while 80 others were killed during Israeli attacks.
According to the authorities in Gaza, the number of hunger victims has reached 188, including 94 children.
The hostage crisis deepens
On Saturday (August 2), Hamas released a disturbing video showing Israeli hostage to Ezyatar David in a thrown state inside what seemed to be a tunnel. The shots shocked many in Israel and renewed international pressure on Hamas to release the remaining 50 hostages.
Israeli authorities estimate that there may still be 20 hostages in Gaza. Most of them were issued in previous ceasefires mediated by diplomatic efforts. According to international mediators, the last ceasefire was interrupted by Israel.
Palestinian reaction and warning
Palestinian officials interpreted a complete proposal to take over as a potential pressure tactic to push Hamas into concessions. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry urged the international community to take the reports seriously.
“These leaks must be treated with the highest seriousness,” the ministry said in a statement. “Whether they are to put pressure, test international reactions or are real and serious, the world must hit to prevent them from being implemented.”
Pushback
Despite Netanyahu’s signals, parts of the Israeli army, they reportedly resist the idea of complete occupation and quote tension from almost two years of conflict and concerns about long -term wiring.
The long -wing national security minister ITAMAR Ben Gvir has publicly attacked Military Chief of Dommir on X and demanded to confirm that he will follow government orders if the decision to repetition of the Gaza is made.
Israeli defensive forces (IDF) replied that they were “ready to make any decision that will be made by the Cabinet of Political Security”.
The number of victims rises
The war began after the Militants Hamas started a deadly cross-border attack on October 7, 2023 and killed about 1,200 Israelis-the nuclear civilians-took 251 hostages.
Since then, the Israeli offensive has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians according to the health authorities in Gaza. Most victims were civilians.
