The Provisional Government of Nepal, led by Prime Minister Sushil Karki, launched a probe this month into protests against corruption, which killed 74 and caused the resignation of PM KP Sharma Oli. The Provisional Government has now established a panel for investigations, the Minister said on Monday.
At the beginning of this month, protests in Nepal began as a peaceful demonstration of Gen-Z against extensive corruption and lack of jobs that caused Kathmandu’s ban on social media. However, this broke into what could be called the deadliest violence in the Himalayan country after decades after several young people in an alleged protest when the police started fire.
More than 2,100 people were kept injured when demonstrators during violence in Nepal lit the main office complex, which houses the Office of the Prime Minister, the Supreme Court and the Parliament building, as well as centers, luxury hotels and showrooms. They set that these devices were owned by corrupt policies or people approaching them.
Rameshwore Khanal, who commissioned Sushil Karki to the Ministry of Finance, said the three -member panel headed by a retirement Gauri Bahadur Karki received three months to complete the probe.
Karki is a former chairman of a special court who hears cases of corruption in Nepal and has a reputation for honesty and integrity. Meanwhile, Sushila Karki is a former main judge of Nepal.
“It will explore … Loss of life and property during protests, excesses of both parties and people involved in actions of arson and vandalism during the movement,” Khanal told Reuters.
According to the Minister of the Interior OM Prakash Aryal, the decision was taken on Monday.
“The fundamental agreement on the establishment of the investigative body has already been made last week’s cabinet meeting. The final confirmation of the creation of the commission and members has been made today,” he quoted him either.
Former the next general inspector (AIG) of the Nepalese police Bigyan Raj Sharma and advocate Bishweshwor Prasad Bhandari are two other members of the panel.
KP Sharma Oli demands a probe into Nepal violence
In the social media, the former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also demanded an investigation into violence and stated that his government had ordered the police to fire at the protesters. The protests were infiltrated by outsiders and the police did not have the type of weapons used to fire the crowd, Oli said.
“The conspirators who infiltrated it (protest) created violence and killed our youth. The government ordered protesters to protest.
