Nelly explains her decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration
Previously, The Shade Room reported that Nelly was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump’s inaugural ball on Monday, January 20. The news was first reported by CBS reporter Taurean Smalls. X (formerly Twitter) January 17.
Now the main representative of St. Louis explains his decision to be part of the celebration for Donnie. Nelly joined the rapper Willie D for a conversation on YouTube where he addressed his choice – prompting a lot of reaction across social media.
In a video interview, Nelly made it clear that he is not performing at Trump’s inauguration ball for money.
“I don’t do it for the money. I do it because it’s an [honor]. I respect the office. It doesn’t matter who is in office. Just like our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country must go to war and put their lives on the line for whoever is in office. So if they can endanger the life of anyone in office, I sure as hell play for whoever is in office,” Nelly explained.
Willie D also pointed out all the backlash Nelly has received since it was announced that she was part of the inaugural ball lineup. He even asked Nelly how he would respond to people calling him out for supporting a white racist. But the rapper said straight up that he needs proof that Donald Trump is a white racist. “I would ask them to show me where the white racist is,” Nelly added.
