Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitha Vejendla said a plan is being prepared to implement security measures involving 1,500 police personnel for the upcoming local body elections in SPSR Nellore district. Around 220 policemen have been deployed to provide security at 44 nomination centres, including 20 in the city, 13 in Atmakur and 11 in Buchireddypalem.
She said, “The district police administration is fully prepared with tight security arrangements to ensure that the upcoming local body elections are conducted in a peaceful, free and fair manner. Adequate security and monitoring arrangements have been put in place at the nomination centers to ensure that the nomination process is conducted peacefully and the public does not face any problems.”

“Under this, sensitive and highly sensitive areas have been identified and based on the specific situation, additional forces will be deployed at these locations. Police officers have been instructed to intensify proactive measures such as round-the-clock patrolling, vehicle checks and tracking the movement of suspicious persons to avoid any untoward incidents,” the SP said.
Around 300 ‘cordon and search’ operations (CASO) have been carried out across the district since the start of this year to control crime, curb anti-social activity, monitor the movement of suspects and ensure public safety. Through CASO, the authorities also closely monitor the movement of suspicious vehicles. More than 4,000 awareness programs have been conducted in the district so far, the SP said.
As a precautionary measure to ensure that no untoward incidents take place during the election period, the SP said that so far, “bundling” proceedings have been initiated against 874 individuals across the district. The police department will keep a close watch on individuals who have been involved in electoral conflicts and other problematic individuals in the past, she said.
She advised the public, political parties and candidates to strictly abide by the election code and refrain from any action that could disrupt law and order. She warned of strict legal action against those who engage in intimidation, conflict or illegal activities during the elections.
