Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday (May 13, 2026) alleged that one of the accused held in the NEET paper leak case is a BJP leader and the state government was trying to hush up the matter.
The Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has detained more than 150 people and more than 20 were handed over to the CBI for questioning last night.
However, SOG officials did not release the names of the detained persons. Mr. Gehlot said that the accused he mentioned is Dinesh Binwal.
“The accused arrested in the NEET paper leak case, Dinesh Binwal, is a Bharatiya Janata Party functionary,” he claimed in a post on X.
Mr. Gehlot released a photograph of a poster of the accused showing him as the district secretary of BJYM in rural Jaipur.
State BJP vice-president Mukesh Dadhich said Binwal has no position in the party, while agencies have not confirmed the arrest.
Mr. Gehlot asked if this was the reason why the BJP government in Rajasthan tried to suppress the NEET paper leak and did not register any FIR.
“Since May 11, I have been asking why the BJP government did not file an FIR. Now the BJP’s truth has been exposed,” he said.
“Is the BJP government now protecting the mafia who are playing with the future of the youth?” he asked.
Responding to Mr Gehlot’s allegations, Mukesh Dadhich denied that Binwal held any position in the party.
Binwal hails from Jamwaramgarh in Jaipur. The SOG has detained several persons from various parts including Sikar, rural Jaipur (including Jamwaramgarh), Alwar and other nearby areas.
Binwal’s family members said he and his brother were detained by the police. They said both brothers are innocent and falsely implicated.
Their mother Prabhu Devi said Dinesh is a good friend of the local MLA and spoke to the MLA after he was captured by the police.
“My sons are innocent. They were falsely implicated. I called the MLA and asked him to find out why he was captured,” she said.
Dinesh’s wife Rajni said that her husband cannot be involved in such a case. She said she was in Sikar with her son for NEET preparation.
She said her son was also detained by the police.
“The police did not tell us the reason why they took them. I do not believe that my husband and brother-in-law can be involved in the paper leak,” she said.
