The former Olympic and World Champion managed the best efforts of 84.03 m, well short from his usual standards, and was visibly frustrated when his campaign ended in the 5th round of the finals. Chopra began with an introductory throw of 84.65 m, followed by 83.03 m. Foul on his third attempt and a modest 82.86 m in their fourth left under pressure and tightly avoided the elimination in the round before it was eventually expelled. Bíbl among the remaining competitors, called on the crowd for support and yelled before what turned out to be his last throw. But as soon as the spear left his hand, Chopra pointed to his face. He grinned and then crossed the border, so his last throw was invalid. Frustration took off his belt, screamed and covered his face and emphasized his disappointment.
