India Neera Chopra responds to the men’s spear to throw the finals at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. (AP/PTI) Tokyo on Thursday witnessed a rare perspective when Neer Chopra, an Indian gold boy javelin, ended the eighth at the 2025 athletics World Championship with the best 84.03 m throw. It was his worst performance at the global meeting since 2018, when he was still growing star on the international scene. Chopra, who was strongly qualified to throw in the preliminary round of 84.85 m, fought for a big day. His best of 84.03 m came in the second attempt, but could not proceed after the fifth round. Later he admitted that he was dealing with the problems that hindered his rhythm. The result was shocked by fans, due to the consistency of Chopry in recent years, where he rarely ended up in the first three in the main competitions. For the context, Chopra has been one of the almost flawless performances since 2018. It has Olympic gold (2021), Olympic silver (2024), World Championship titles and more Diamond League victories. His feasts regularly violated the brand 85 meters, with the personal best of 90.23 m achieved at the beginning of this year in Doha. Tokyo, however, reminded everyone that even champions have out of days. Below is a record of Chopry’s performance since 2018, which shows how rare is eighth in his career.
