Nedumbassery luxury car accident: Kerala HC grants bail to all four accused
The court stated that it cannot hastily come to the conclusion that the accused had prior knowledge of the alleged criminal acts simply because of alcohol consumption or speeding.
The Kerala High Court on Friday (November 6, 2026) granted bail to four youths accused in the Nedumbassery luxury car accident that led to the death of three young two-wheeler riders.
Judge Kauser Edappagath allowed the bail applications of the four accused, noting that all the accused were in their early twenties, had no criminal record and had already spent time in custody. Suhail Sajeev, the first accused will be released on November 16 as the state sought more time for investigation. The other three will be released first.
The court stated that it cannot hastily come to the conclusion that the accused had prior knowledge of the alleged criminal acts simply because of alcohol consumption or speeding.
Dispute of the accused
The defendants argued that, as students, their continued detention would adversely affect their education and that they would comply with any bail conditions necessary to ensure their continued cooperation.
On October 11, around 1:45 am, a car driven by Sajeev hit a two-wheeler on Airport Road near Athani, claiming the lives of Gopika, Devika and Iyas. The other accused — Ninav, Joyal S. Anto and Ameen Shah — were in the car with Sajeev during the incident. All four were charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving, manslaughter not amounting to murder and abetment with common intent.
