Protests against alleged police indifference in handling the Nedumbassery accident case that claimed three lives continued unabated, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) organizing a march to the Nedumbassery police station on Wednesday (October 14, 2026).

Organized by the CPI(M) Aluva district committee, the protest march was launched by district secretary S. Satish. The police stopped the march before it reached the railway station by setting up roadblocks. Demonstrators shouting the slogan tried to break the barriers. A similar march to the police station was organized by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Tuesday.

The CPI(M) accused the police of trying to weaken the case to protect Suhail, who allegedly belonged to an influential and wealthy family. Mr. Satish echoed the party’s criticism, alleging that the police delayed registering the FIR and omitted both the name of the accused and his alleged heavy intoxication from it. He further questioned why the FIR did not mention the testimony that a suspected narcotic device was found in the car involved in the accident.

Meanwhile, questions have been raised over the decision to send key accused Suhail Sajeev, 19, to Borstal School despite not being a juvenile. The police defended the move citing Section 324 of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services (Procedure) Rules and said it was in compliance with an order passed by the First Class Magistrate, Angamaly. The police stated in the detention report that they are also investigating whether the accused was under the influence of narcotic substances and whether the speedster did not participate in illegal races.

The accident occurred on October 11 at around 1.45 am. In addition to Suhail, police arrested three of his friends and fellow passengers, Ninav, 19, Ameen Sha, 20, and Joel S. Anto, 20. The police also filed an application for Suhail’s custody pending further investigation.
