(Photo credit: IPL) NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a hard-fought four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, but the victory could come at a heavy cost after leading run-scorer Angkrish Raghuvanshi suffered a worrying injury during the match.KKR assistant coach Shane Watson later revealed that Raghuvanshi was battling neck pain, dizziness and headaches after a heavy collision with teammate Varun Chakravarthy while attempting a catch during MI’s innings. The incident occurred in the 11th over when keeper Raghuvanshi sprinted towards Chakravarthy to take a high catch offered by Tilak Varma. Although it appeared to be a bowler’s catch, Raghuvanshi called it and rushed in, only for both players to collide heavily. The impact caused Chakravarthy to throw away the chance while Raghuvanshi looked visibly shaken. He was later replaced by Tejasvi Singh Dahiya as a substitute for KKR due to concussion and did not come out to bat during the chase.WATCH: Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Varun Chakravarthy clash
Watson reveals the extent of Raghuvanshi’s injury scare
After the game, Watson admitted that the franchise was concerned about the youngster’s condition.“Unfortunately, Ankrish had come a long way to try and get that catch. And unfortunately the collision he had with Varun Chakravarthy meant he also had a sore throat, a bit of dizziness and a bit of a headache on a few occasions,” Watson said.“So, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to finish the game. And I also know how desperate he was. He’s somebody who’s as tough a competitor as I’ve ever met. So we definitely missed him from a hitting standpoint.”Injuries could become a major problem for KKR as Raghuvanshi has been one of their most consistent batsmen this season during their late playoff run.Watson also provided an update on Chakravarthy, revealing that the spinner played through the pain.“I’m not exactly sure where he is in his rehab journey at the moment. All I know is that he’s obviously playing with a bit of pain at the moment, which just shows how brave he is and how much he wants to be here to contribute to KKR,” Watson said.“And he’s still rolling beautifully. It’s been great to see just like the turnaround from the first few games of the season to the impact he’s been able to have consistently in every single game. And we’re so lucky to have some of Varun’s skills.”
