The National Commission for Women (NCW) took the Suo Motu knowledge of the gang-charm of a 20-year-old university student on the beach Gopalpur in Odisha.
In a letter addressed to the CEO of the police Odisha, the chairman of NCW Vijaya Rahatkar called for an immediate arrest of all the remaining accused, time -bound investigation and provision of free medical and psychological support for the survivors. Furthermore, it ordered the authorities to ensure that the compensation would be extended according to Section 396 Bharatiya Nagarik Surraksha Sanhita, 2023, and within three days a report was required.
The ODISha police have so far arrested 10 people, including four juveniles, in connection with the incident that occurred on Sunday evening.
According to the police, survivors and her friend, they sat in an isolated area behind the Panthnivas hotel around 20 hours, as a group of ten young people approached them. The group reportedly overwhelmed a friend and pulled out a woman approximately 50 feet away. While five of the accused watched a male friend, the remaining five reportedly overwhelmed the woman. The police said the three of them raped her while the others stood.
Around 22 hours, the accused allegedly released a couple after threatening them with terrible consequences if they approached the authorities. Despite the threats, survivors and her boyfriend arrived at the Gopalpur police station at about 23 pm and reported the attack.
The accusations are reportedly residents of areas falling under the police limits of purosotto and Hinjili. After the company registration, the survivors underwent a medical exam and her and her girlfriend’s statement was recorded. The scientific team and higher officers visited the crime scene to collect forensic evidence.
The police said they would move the advice for juvenile justice to test the minors involved in the case as adults and quote the abominable nature of the crime.
