Observing that women were the worst suffering municipal violence in Murshidabad, President of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Vijaya Rahatkar, who visited the affected violence on Sunday (April 20, 2025).
Mrs. Rahatkar said NCW is preparing a report on violence and will present it to the authorities in time.
“Wherever we went, we talked to women and were shaken by their anger. All their dreams ended. They lost everything. They asked only one thing – what is their fault? The woman gave birth to a child a few days ago.
Mrs. Rahatkar suggested that the West Bengal Commission also visited the areas affected by violence and listen to the stories of women concerning it.
Together with NCW, Governor West Bengal CV Ananda Bose, and the team of the National Human Rights Commission visited the area affected by violence on the weekend. Governor, who also met families affected by violence and said that the situation is far from normal.
In violence that broke out in Dhulian and SamSerganj areas, three people were killed, protests that began over the WAQF Act were soon changed into municipal disputes.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) called NCW’s visit in the areas affected by violence “politically motivated”.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the TMC leaders, led by Rajya Sabha Samirul Islam and Khalilur Rehman, visited the area affected by violence and met Hargobind Das and Chandan Das, a father and son who was lynch. “The administration will take all measures to ensure security and security. We hope that such incidents will not occur in the future,” said Mr. Islam.
The DAS family said it would not accept any compensation from the West Bengal government. “They (Trinamool’s leaders) did not come. After so many days they came today to give us certainty. If Mamata Banerjee comes, then we will escape to Jharkand to avoid us,” one of the family members said. Mrs. Banerjee announced a compensation of 10 lakhs to another relative of the deceased.
The third death was the death of 21 -year -old Ahmed Sheikha, who died of injuries suffered at a police action.
The Western Bengal Police arrested the fourth person in connection with Hargobind Das and Chandan Das. Ziaul Sheikh, resident of Sulitala Purbaro, the village of neighboring Jafrabad, was arrested from Chopra in the Uttar Dinajpur district.
On Saturday, another person was arrested in this area.
The Yangipur Police Superintendent said that 287 people were arrested for violence in Murshidabad and the arrest of two more people took over at 289. Roy said it had not occurred from April 12.
