NCTE will review TET syllabus, exam pattern and qualifying marks, says AP UTF

Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (AP UTF) on Wednesday said the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is proposing to set up a sub-committee to review the syllabus, qualifying marks and examination pattern of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and suggest changes to it.

UTF State President N. Venkateswarlu and General Secretary KSS Prasad along with School Teachers’ Federation (STFI) leaders CN Bharathi and Chava Ravi met NCTE Chairman Pankaj Arora, Member Secretary Sukhjeet Kaur, Deputy Secretary Satish Kumar and other officials in New Delhi on Wednesday and submitted memorandums on TET related issues.

They explained to NCTE Deputy Secretary (Academic) Satish Kumar the difficulties faced by teachers in the existing TET system and informed that other teachers across the country were greatly disturbed after the Supreme Court verdict asking them to qualify for TET by August 31, 2028.

STFI representatives urged the NCTE to scientifically determine the TET syllabus, conduct subject-wise exams and reduce the qualifying marks. They also sought changes in the exam pattern to make it more suitable for in-service teachers. UTF and STFI leaders said they were assured by NCTE officials that the Council would take appropriate decisions to address teachers’ concerns.

Later, the delegation visited the Election Commission of India Nirvachan Sadan office and submitted a memorandum to ensure that only eligible candidates are enrolled as voters for the upcoming MLC elections for teachers and graduates. They also sought the right to vote in the teachers’ MLC elections for teachers working in primary and upper primary schools.
