NCP (SP) Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar on Monday (Dec 29, 2025) announced the party’s alliance with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister’s NCP-led Ajit Pawar for the upcoming Pune civic body elections, saying party workers wished to go to polls with a rival faction.
Ajit Pawar on Sunday (December 28, 2025) announced an alliance between the factions for the Pimpri Chinchwad civic polls.
“After NCP (SP) city chief Prashant Jagtap left the party, several workers came to working president Supriya Sule saying that the two factions must come together. The decision of the alliance was taken keeping in mind the sentiments of the local party workers,” said Rohit Pawar.
“The alliance has been formed to ensure that the election fight becomes easier for both the factions,” he said, adding that for now the parties will fight the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad civic polls together.
“Mr. Pawar saheb (Sharad Pawar) was not involved in this decision. But he believes that party workers are important and their views are important for civic polls,” the party general secretary said.
He said the seat-sharing formula was also decided without further details. Elections to 29 civic bodies in Maharashtra, including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, will be held on January 15. The counting of votes will take place the following day. The deadline for submitting nominations is December 30.
