Ruling National Conference (NC) lawmaker Altaf Kaloo on Friday said his bodyguard “grabbed him by the neck” during an argument over his reported truancy. Meanwhile, the J&K Police has lodged an FIR against Mr. Kaloo for “assaulting a police officer on duty”.

“My Personal Security Officer (PSO) was absent for several days, which I formally reported to officials on Thursday. Later in the afternoon, the PSO, angered by my reporting his absence, used disrespectful language, launched a physical attack and tried to grab me by the neck before other security personnel intervened,” Mr Kaloo said.

The lawmaker said he was considering “filing a counter-complaint” against the officer. “I urge the DGP to conduct an inquiry and take action. The statements of several witnesses have already been recorded,” Mr Kaloo said.

The policeman, on the other hand, accused Mr. Kaloo and another NC leader of “attacking”. The J&K Police has reportedly lodged an FIR against the lawmaker.
