Oklahoma City Thunder has just completed a regular season for record books that the NBA has never seen before.
With a record of 68-14, Thunder not only ensured the best grade at the Western Conference commanding 16-Game Span, but also rewrote the history of the league with completion with the highest point differential ever recorded in one season.
Oklahoma City broke 12.3 points on the record of Los Angeles Lakers in 1971-72 by outscoring opponents by 12.9 points per game. Thunder exceeded his opponents by 1,055 points during the 82-game season.
“We can appreciate and be grateful for the things we have achieved and still hungry,” said Mark Daigneault head coach after the final of the regular season. “Both things can be true.”
One of the largest regular periods ever
Thunder’s 68 victory connects them with Philadelphia 76ers from 1966-67 and Boston Celtics in 1972-73 for the sixth best record in the regular season in the history of the NBA. Only five teams sometimes won more games:
2015-16 Golden State Warriors (73-9)
1995-96 Chicago Bulls (72-10)
1996-97 Chicago Bulls (69-13)
1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (69-13)
1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers (68-13)
Each of these teams continued to perform a deep postseason running, with most of the championship won.
Thunder is now joining Elite Company and expectations are high because they go to the playoffs as popular to win the NBA title, according to BetmgM Sportsbook.
Young list with aspirations of the championship
Thunder, led by a pioneer MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, mixed his youth, defense and effective offense into the winning formula. Their list contains several rising stars and plays with maturity far away in its years.
“WinS’s franchise record is a great success,” Daigneault added. “It was an incredible regular season. A special group of people who deserve these things.”
Oklahoma City will open the first round of playoffs of NBA 20.
With the historical regular season, Thunder now moves his focus on Postseason. The NBA Play-in tournament runs from 15 to 18 April, with full playoffs of the NBA from 2025 April 19.
