NBA Legends and four -time LeBron James champion officially added a new title to their heritage: Barbie’s first “Kenbassador”. This week, Mattel introduced the Special Edition LeBron James Signature Ken Doll and for the first time the athlete was immortalized in the Barbie iconic line.
The announcement comes as part of Mattel’s new campaign in cooperation with the LeBron James Family Foundation and celebrates influential men who inspire the next generation. The doll, which will drop on Monday, April 14 at 12:00 EST, will sell for $ 75 and will be available online and in selected Amazon, Walmart and Mattel Creations.
“As a young child, I was lucky that I had patterns that not only inspired me, but also showed me what was possible through hard work and determination,” James said in his statement. “Now, as an adult, I understand how necessary for young people to have positive figures you can look for. Therefore, a partnership with Barbie is released by LeBron James Kenbassadors.”
Doll
James personally worked with Mattel’s design team to ensure that the doll reflects its identity, value and story. The character wears a white and blue van jacket with his initials “LJ”, his name “lebron” over the back and iconic phrase “just a child of acron”. Sleeve details are completed by the green and gold crown from the LeBron James Family Foundation and Blue Ohio Patch.
The doll also has accessories for signatures, including:
– Nike Dunk Hi Retro Sneakers in Lakers Purple
– Beats headphones
– Fanny Pack
– T -shirt “We are Family” that honors its foundation
– Description watches and bracelet “promise” that refers to his school in Akron
The doll even costs one inch higher than traditional Ken, reflecting James’s advantage in real life.
The impact behind the toy
As part of the Charity pressure of the campaign, Mattel announced that for the first 5,000 dolls sold in Target (14 – 19 April), the company will donate a copy of James’s children’s book “I am more than” to save children, which is almost an athlete.
The designation “Kenbassador” is more than a promotional brand. Mattel called an attempt to recognize men “who inspire and contribute to the better world for everyone”. LeBron’s determination of education, strengthening the position of youth and community service made it an obvious choice for the campaign.
At 40 and in his 22nd season in the NBA, James remains a force to count on the court, on average 24.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game. Its reach now exceeds far beyond the basketball court with successful business businesses in the media, fashion, philanthropy and now Barbie.
James becomes Sue Bird and Venus Williams, who in the past received dolls carved in their pictures as part of the Barbie Summer of Sports campaign.
