About Maa Mahagauri
Maa Mahagauri is honored as the eighth manifestation of the goddess Durgy. According to Hindu mythology, her story is deeply rooted in devotion, repentance and divine combination of Shiva and Shakti.
The goddess Parvati, the reincarnation of Adi Shakti, wanted to marry Lord Šivová, the highest ascetic dwellings in the Himalayas. But Lord Shiva, lost in deep meditation, was separated from secular affairs.
Parvati decided to get his heart with a heavy repentance (Tapasya). For years, she has performed the most difficult asceticism in the Himalayas, meditating about shin, permanent storms, heat and cold. She survived on the leaves and eventually gave up and kept only in the air. Her repentance continued for thousands of years and because of these extreme conditions her skin was dark and rough.

Lord Shiva, who was moving her unwavering devotion, finally appeared in front of her. He accepted her as his consort and gave her the name Mahagauri, which means “extremely fair”. It is assumed that Lord Shiva blessed her to regain her original, radiant, gold-white skin.
