Karnataka State Temperance Board President Sharanappa Saladpur said that a state-level conference on ‘Addiction Free Day’ would be organized in the auditorium of the Agricultural College, Bheemarayanagudi, Shahapur on August 1 to mark the birth anniversary of Vijay Mahant Swami.
Mr. Saladpur said that this is the first state level conference to be held in Kalyana Karnataka to create awareness about the harm caused by alcohol and other drug addiction.
Various government departments, ASHA and anganwadi workers and other members of various organizations are asked to attend the conference as part of efforts to make the society free from addiction and drugs, he said.
Referring to Hutti in Koppal district, where there are no liquor shops, Mr. Saladpur said that the villagers gave up all addictions, including alcohol, after Abhinava Gavisiddeshwar Swami convinced them with his inspirational speeches. Similarly there are 13 other villages in Koppal district who have followed Swami’s advice and avoided all bad habits.
“All the villages will be awarded with prizes and letters of appreciation from the board after this conference,” he added.
