National Commission for Child Rights rescues more than 3,800 children from child labour

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has rescued over 3,800 children from child labor in a sustained campaign launched in June. More than 575 FIRs have also been registered in connection with these incidents.

NCPCR, a statutory body of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, launched a special ‘Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation’ campaign on June 12, which will continue till August 31, an official statement said here on Friday (September 4, 2026).

The Commission on the Rights of the Child has taken coordinated measures with the concerned State Governments/Union Territory Administrations, District Magistrates, Labor Unions, Police Authorities and other stakeholders to intensify the identification, rescue and rehabilitation of children involved in child labor and children at risk of trafficking and exploitation.

Following this, it issued a communication to the concerned authorities demanding intensified and targeted rescue operations in hotspots of child labor and human trafficking.

States and UTs have also been asked to provide regular data on rescue operations, children rescued, FIRs registered, rehabilitation, restoration, mainstreaming education, compensation and other follow-up etc.

In order to monitor the implementation and solve the problems at the field level, NCPCR organized a meeting with the district administrations. The talks focused on reviewing rescue operations, resolving operational bottlenecks, ensuring timely submission of ATRs and strengthening coordination between concerned departments and agencies.

The NCPCR is also committed to awareness and dissemination through social media and other communication platforms, disseminating information about the campaign, reporting on child labor and the importance of post-rescue rehabilitation and education, the statement added.

Due to continuous and active monitoring of the above mentioned campaign, NCPCR in collaboration with state authorities has successfully saved over 3,800 children. Further, over 575 FIRs were registered during the campaign.
