Natasha Jonas is focused on defeating Lauren Price in their upcoming bout and then pursuing an undisputed world championship. The fight, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports this Friday, sees Jonas, the unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion, take on WBA titleholder Price.
Jonas is open to an undisputed championship fight at either welterweight or super-lightweight. At welterweight, the WBO belt is held by Mikaela Mayer, who narrowly lost to Jonas in a contentious decision last year. Mayer is set to face Britain’s Sandy Ryan later this month, with the winner potentially becoming Jonas’ next opponent.
Meanwhile, Katie Taylor, who fought Jonas in the 2012 Olympics and later in a professional world title bout, is the undisputed super-lightweight champion. Jonas has expressed willingness to move down in weight for a rematch with Taylor. She told Sky Sports: "Beat Lauren, and then it’s either undisputed with Mayer and Ryan’s winner, or a fight with Katie. Those are the two options."
Jonas’ trainer, Joe Gallagher, is confident in her ability to overcome Price, despite the Welsh fighter’s impressive Olympic gold medal pedigree. Gallagher highlighted Jonas’ experience and adaptability, noting, "Lauren brings a lot to the table, but Natasha’s shot selection and the level of competition she’s faced give her the edge."
Gallagher also dismissed the idea of Jonas "passing the torch" to Price, emphasizing her resilience and determination. "We’ve been in this position before, like with Terri Harper, and we’ve come back. There’s no pressure on Natasha—it’s all on Lauren," he said.
Jonas, who has already unified titles at super-welterweight and welterweight, is proving her versatility by moving across weight classes. Gallagher pointed out, "Her true fighting weight is either 135 or 140lbs, so what she’s achieved is unbelievable."
Watch Natasha Jonas take on Lauren Price live on Sky Sports this Friday, March 7, at the Royal Albert Hall.
