The cricket council in England and Wales (ECB) confirmed that the captain of the women’s team Natalie Sciver-Brunt remains the remaining two matches of the T20i series against India due to the groin.
Tammy Beaumont enters as a captain for the last two games, while Maia Bouchier has been called to replace the Sciver-Brunt in the group. The ECB also confirmed that it is expected that Sciver-Brunt will be suitable for the beginning of the ODI series, which begins on July 16th.
Bouchier, known for his aggressive launching style, could offer England some much needed firepower in the middle order. But he will feel the absence of a Sciver-Brunta. It was versatile in a firm form and scored 66 and 13 in the first two T20is, and its presence with Bat and Ball was central for the English strategy of white balls.
England currently trail 1-2 in a series of five matches, which lost the first two games on the self-confident Indian party. Mandhan He was helpful at the strong beginning of India and provided consistent runs at the top of the order. The third T20i saw England bounce off with the much needed victory to make the series alive.
Despite failure, stand-in Captain Beaumont believes that the team must remain calm and folded before the decisive fourth match that will be played in Manchester on Wednesday 9 July. The last T20i is scheduled for Saturday 12 July in Birmingham.
“The worst thing we could do right now is panic,” Beaumont said, as ICC quoted.
“It’s not the situation we wanted-we did not be 2-0 down and we didn’t want our captain and the best dough to be injured. But we have to deal with where we are now, and respond positively.”
“We have to bring some peace and logic to the team environment. We absolutely believe that we can return and win this. Full credit to India pushed us hard, but I believe we can answer, and I will do everything I can to do.”
