On Monday (August 25) at least 20 people were killed, including five journalists, when Israeli strikes were hit by a complex of Nasser Hospital in South Gaza. The incident caused the outrage of groups of press freedom and media organizations, while the Israeli army said it would open an investigation.
Strike on Nasser Hospital
According to the Gaza Civil Defense Agency, the hospital was hit twice – first an explosive drone and then a rocket when people rushed to save the injured.
Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for Mahmud Bassal, told reporters: “There are still 20 martyrs, including five journalists and one member of the civil defense.”
Dr. Ahmed Al-Farra, head of pediatrics in Nasser, said the first strike hit the top floor of one building, followed a few minutes later with the second missile.
Journalists among the dead
The international media confirmed the death of their contributors: Associated Press said that Mariam Dagga, 33, a freelance visual journalist, was killed.
“We are shocked and sad when we learned about her death,” she said.
Al Jazeera reported the loss of his cameraman Mohammad Salama.
“This terrible crime is part of a systematic campaign that will silence the truth,” the net said.
Reuters confirmed that the supplier Hussam Al-Masri was killed and more, Khaled’s Hat, was injured.
“We are devastated … and we are looking for urgent medical attention to the hat,” the spokesman said.
Palestinian journalists also named Moaz Abu Taha and Ahmad Abu Aziz between the victims.
According to the Committee on the Protection of Journalists, nearly 200 journalists were killed in the 22 -month war.
Israeli military reaction
The Israeli army confirmed that it had hit the area, but intentionally headed for journalists.
In his statement, the Israeli defense force (IDF) stated: “IDF regrets any harm to the non -participating individual and does not focus on journalists as such.
Israel had previously accused Hamas of operating from hospitals, although he rarely provided supportive evidence.
Eyewitnesses of chaos
A British doctor working in Nasser’s hospital described the consequences: “The absolute scenes of chaos, distrust and fear. Patients with IV drops lay on the floors while the stretchers rushed around visitors and sought close.”
The doctor added: “You should be protected at the place where you work. But you are not. I’m worried about my colleagues and patients who left today.”
The AFP shots have shown that smoke fills the air, the bloody corpses transmitted by the hospital door, and the medical staff were impressed as civilians were injured.
Reactions and convicts
The Foreign Press Association in Israel called for an “immediate explanation” of the Army of the Prime Minister’s Office: “We invite Israel once and for all to stop their nasty practice focusing on journalists.”
The Turkey of Turkey also condemned the strike and called it “attack on freedom of the press and other war crime”.

Fire
Nasser is one of the last major hospitals that still work in Gaza. Since the beginning of the war, it has been repeatedly affected, worsening lack of employees and stocks.
The Ministry of Health of Gaza said that more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the conflict, with approximately half of which were women and children. The United Nations is considering credible, even if Israel challenges and has not published its own number of civilian victims.
