In printed and digital commercials, the media house described this opportunity as “an opportunity to celebrate the Indian visionary leader to an important milestone of his life” and urged the reader to share their greetings either through the TOI website or by calling her representatives listed in the advertising.
This step, however, caused sharp reactions online. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra challenged the attitude of paper and compared it with North Korea, while several users suggested that the campaign can be focused on charity units such as providing meals, clothing or disadvantaged support.
Some also remembered moments from the history of newspapers and pointed out that in 1964 toi committed themselves £1 lakh do not nesc memorial fund.
On social media, users claimed that similar acts of philanthropy would be a more meaningful honor.
Meanwhile, other media media, including NDTV, joined the birthday reflector with the features of Modi’s popularity among younger voters and its role in promoting yoga around the world.
