Mysuru’s Narayana Hospital on Thursday said its radiation oncology services have been upgraded with the commissioning of a new generation linear accelerator (LINAC) system.
Mysuru Hospital has been providing oncology care for the past decade with the support of advanced radiation therapy services including LINAC based treatment. The latest update boosts the accuracy, safety and effectiveness of the treatment, he said.
The next generation LINAC system was launched in the presence of Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman, Narayana Health, and Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji of Avadhoota Datta Peetham.
“Cancer continues to emerge as a major public health problem in India, underscoring the urgent need to expand access to advanced diagnostics and treatment outside metropolitan centres. Estimates from the ICMR indicate that nearly 1 in 9 Indians face a lifetime risk of developing cancer, with the incidence predicted to rise significantly in the coming decades. In Karnataka, it is estimated that nearly 89 are currently diagnosed each year 125 new cases of cancer,” he said. the hospital said in a statement.
Dr. Shetty said, “As the incidence of cancer continues to rise in India, the challenge before us is not only to advance treatment capabilities, but also to ensure that these advances reach every patient who needs them.”
The hospital’s new facilities further reduce the need for patients from neighboring districts such as Mandya, Madikeri, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Ramanagaram to travel long distances for advanced radiation therapy, the report added.
Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, practicing pranayama and meditation, regular exercise, maintaining proper sleep-wake cycles and leading a stress-free life.
