The Government of Karnataka came under the fire of the opposition parties to allow the milk giant Amul based in Gujarat to set up kiosky at 10 Bengalur metro stations. Bharatiya Janata (BJP) and Janata Dal (secular) (JDS) accused the ruling congress party of neglecting the promotion of the state brand Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), Nandini.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) approved the amul kiosky after the selection procedure. However, opposition parties, including BJP and JDS, claim that these 10 main retail spaces should be reserved for Nandini stores to support local farmers and the state sector of the milk.
Nandini versus amul in Karnataka
The presence of amul kiosks at Bengalur metro stations was ruled by a long -term rivalry between the brand Nandini Amul and KMF. The dispute was intensified in December 2022 after visiting the Interior Minister AMIT Shah in KMF facilities in Mandya, which raised concerns about farmers and political groups on the growing track of amulin potentially undergoing Nandini’s market share.
During his visit, Amit Shah advocated cooperation between Amul and KMF, suggesting that joint efforts could be established within three years of primary dairy in every village. He also indicated Amul and provided Nandini technical support to strengthen state milk.
Amul outlets at the Bengalur Metro Metro
BMRCL official confirmed the PTI that Amul is currently operating kiosky in Benniganahalli and ByAppanahali Metro Stations, with plans to open other Pattandur Agraha, Indranagar, Trinity Circle, Sir M Visvaraya, Jayanagara, Majestic, National College and Banashhance.
The official noted that Nandini had previously opened shops at MG Road, Mahalakshmi and Vijayanagar stations, but only the Vijayanagar outlet remains functional. “For us, nandini and amul are equal. Anyone who pays rent will be allowed to work,” the clerk added.
BJP, JDS hit the Govt Congress in Karnataka
JD (s), once an ally of Congress, launched a scary attack on the ruling party and representatives of the main Minister of DK Shivakumar through a lengthy paper on X, using the hashtag #savenandini in Cannada.
The JDS accused Shivakumara of “sold his respect for the Commission” and criticized the Congress using the Nandini brand during the 2023 elections just to leave it.
“Before the elections, DK boasted that self -esteem for Kannadigas is not for sale … Today he stopped dairy products for those from other states for commission,” JDS said.
“More than 10 metro stations in Bengalur were allowed to sell dairy products from the state. The Congress used the Nandini brand, the pride of our farmers and all Kannadigas, for its promotion, for it after the elections,” the party added.
BJP MP PC Mohan also criticized Congress and accused him of hypocrisy. “Before the Karnataka elections in Karnataka from 2023, Congress falsely accused the BJP of favors of outsiders. But now the same Congress government, which supervises and maintenance of BMRCL, has allowed amulian kiosks to replace Nandini.
DK Shivakumar assures NANDINI stores at Bengalur metro stations
In response to the controversy of the Deputy Minister of Karnataka DK Shivakumar, he assured that the milk federation in Karnataka was ordered to start the process of opening the Nandini store at eight metro stations.
“The KMF was instructed to apply for BMRCL to open Nandini stores at eight metro stations,” Shivakumar told reporters. “BMRCL released a global offer and Amul was the only applicant.
He added: “Amul has already opened two stations stores. It is not appropriate to close the existing one. We asked BMRCL to allow Nandini stores at the remaining stations.”
