Namma Chennai App Opens Volunteer Registration Ahead of North East Monsoon

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has started registration of volunteers through the upgraded Namma Chennai mobile app ahead of the Northeast Monsoon as directed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

The aim of this initiative was to enable members of the public, NGOs, residents’ associations and other organizations to work with the government and the GCC during emergencies and disaster relief operations. Chennai Corporation Commissioner GS Sameeran said the system will help coordinate the services of volunteers and deploy them according to preferred areas of participation.

Volunteers can register through the Namma Chennai app or the company’s website. New users need to create an account using their name, mobile number, email address, address and PIN and login using OTP.

They can then select the “Volunteer Registration” option and register as an individual, legal entity or NGO/association. Applicants must provide details of previous disaster experience, upload proof of identity and emergency contact details and select their area of expertise.

Volunteers can also indicate their preferred zone or choose ‘Any area in Chennai’ if they are willing to work anywhere within the company limits.
