Namibia secured its place in the Men T20 World Cup from the ICC Men’s Men’s T20 and became the first African site to qualify through the final of the African region.
This will be their fourth direct appearance at the global action after playing in 2021, 2022 and 2024.
In all important semifinals in Harare, Namibia defeated Tanzania by 63 runs. They built 174 for 6, led by Gerhard Erasm (55) and JJ Smit (61* with four six) before they released Tanzania for 111 for 8. Smit also played with the ball, took 3 for 16, while Ben Shikongo claimed 3 for 21.
Their qualifying run was consistent. In the qualifying in Africa 2024, they were undefeated and won all five matches. This included another big victory over Tanzania, 58 runs that sealed their place soon.
Namibia, although there is still an associated nation, impressed the world scene. In 2021 they advanced to Super 12s. In 2022 and 2024 they performed in the group phase, but won the famous victory, including victory against the former Sri Lanka champions in 2022.
Zimbabwe or Kenya will also qualify from the final of the Africa region, with two semifinals at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
Smit, Loftie-Eaton Shine for Namibia
JJ Smit was in the final of the Africa region Standout Dough Namibia, scored 174 runs on average 174.00 and strike 204.70, emphasized by undefeated 111 not.
Jan Frylinck also amazed 189 runs at 63.00, including the best of 134, while Captain Gerhard Erasmus added 114 runs at 38.00 with the two fifties. Frylinck also hit a 13-mixed half-century against Zimbabwe, the second fastest in the T20is versus a complete member.
Jan Loftie-Eaton and Ben Shikongo brought key breakthroughs for Namibia in the final of Africa. Loftie-Eaton picked up 10 goals in four matches, including the best of 4/10, while maintaining an economy of only 5.50.
Shikongo completed it with six goals out of four games at 12.00 per piece, emphasized his 3/21 against Tanzania.
