The names of six soldiers — five from the Indian Army and one from the IAF — who died in the line of duty during Operation Sindoor last year have been inscribed on a wall at the National War Memorial as a tribute to the fallen heroes.

This is the first time since the military operation led by the Indian Armed Forces in May 2025 that the government has released the names of the six personnel.

Operation Sindoor was carried out to avenge the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 last year.

The names of the six persons, inscribed on Wall No. “3D” Tyag Chakra in the National War Memorial are — Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Gunner Sunil Kumar (VrC), Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Mood Muralinaik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of the Army and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of the Indian Air Force.

The unit names of these brave hearts were also written.

Sources said these six names were recently written on the wall.

These names have also been added to the roll of honor on the National War Memorial website.

The iconic memorial stands as a solemn tribute to Indian soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty defending the nation during the wars since independence.

The centerpiece of the memorial, located in the India Gate complex, is an obelisk along with an eternal flame – the Amar Jawan Jyoti – surrounded by concentric circles bearing curved walls, named serially, on which the names of the fallen heroes were inscribed.

At the corner of wall No. “3D”, the brick in the upper row bears the inscription “OP SINDOOR”, the one below it “2025”, followed by the names of six employees in a column on different rows of bricks.

India launched Operation Sindoor early on May 7 last year and decimated multiple terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Pakistan also launched attacks against India and all subsequent counter-offensives by India were also carried out under Operation Sindoor.

The military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors came to a halt after they reached an agreement on the evening of May 10.
