Naidu orders monthly economic reports to monitor GSDP growth

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is holding a review meeting on GSDP on Tuesday.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to prepare monthly economic reports to closely monitor Andhra Pradesh’s growth trajectory and ensure that the state achieves its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) targets.

While revising the GSDP targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the financial year 2026-27, Mr. Naidu emphasized the need for data-driven management and continuous monitoring of economic indicators at the state, district and mandal levels. He said the monthly, quarterly and semi-annual reviews will help monitor progress and facilitate timely policy interventions whenever needed.

The Chief Minister instructed the departments to improve the indicators which remain below the national average and strive to match the performance of the leading states. He also suggested introducing a performance appraisal system that measures actual growth results, rather than merely evaluating the achievement of predetermined targets.

Emphasizing the role of technology in governance, Mr. Naidu called for an AI-based task force to monitor economic activity in real time. Noting that infrastructure spending has a strong multiplier effect on the economy, he said investment in major projects could significantly accelerate growth across sectors.

He emphasized the need to increase gross value added (GVA) in manufacturing, mining, trade, transport, agriculture and services. Flagship projects like Amaravati, Polavaram project, ports and airports, he said, should be used to generate higher economic activity and create employment opportunities.

Mr. Naidu also directed officials to make greater use of technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen tax administration and improve GST and other revenue collections. To improve administrative efficiency, he proposed to hold a seminar on capacity building at the state level for government officials on July 2 and 3.

The evaluation meeting was attended by senior officials from the departments of finance, planning, agriculture, horticulture, transport and tourism. The initiative forms part of the larger vision of the government to achieve the goals of ‘Swarna Andhra 2047’ through technology-based and evidence-based management.
