Former undivided Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, who led the 1984 coup against TDP founder NT Ram Rao, died here on Wednesday.
Bhaskar Rao breathed his last at a super specialty hospital here while undergoing treatment for age-related ailments, the Jana Sena party said.
His son Nadenda Manohar, a key Jana Sena leader, currently serves as the Civil Supplies Minister in Andhra Pradesh.
Bhaskar Rao, who was a minister in NT Rama Rao’s cabinet, rebelled against him and became the Chief Minister.
However, Bhaskar Rao’s tenure lasted only a month and NTR again took over as Chief Minister after a massive ‘Save Democracy’ movement by the TDP.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu played a key role in the campaign to reinstate NTR as Chief Minister.
Bhaskar Rao was later elected to the Lok Sabha by the Congress in 1998.
However, he joined the BJP in 2019 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Rao’s body will be laid to rest at his Jubilee Hills residence here for friends, relatives, fans and well-wishers to pay their last respects.
His last rites will be performed at Panjagutta in Hyderabad on April 24, a press release said.
