Nacharam Pedda Cheruvu will be developed

Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency has started restoration and development work at Pedda Cheruvu of Nacharam. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath on Thursday (July 16) inaugurated the project for the 108.30-acre lake at an estimated cost of ₹28 crore.

The project involves the construction of a reinforced embankment, footpath, seating areas, parks, children’s play zones, open gymnasiums and yoga platforms to create a recreational space for residents of all ages. Addressing reporters, the commissioner said that the desilting of the lake to a depth of 10 feet is underway and the entire project should be completed within nine months.

Ranganath said the restoration of the lakes by HYDRAA has not only helped in mitigating monsoon floods but has also contributed to improving the water table. At Lake Nacharam, plastic waste is being removed as part of the restoration and similar benefits to groundwater recharge are expected. He said the project would also address the long-standing problems of sewage, foul odor and mosquito infestation, while creating a cleaner and more pleasant environment for local residents.

Later, the commissioner inspected Nagireddy Kunta at Yapral in Medchal-Malkajgiri district following complaints by residents of encroachment on the full lake level (FTL) area and adjoining government land.

Residents informed the commissioner that the diversion of the flood channel connecting Nagireddy Kunta to Oora Cheruvu, along with encroachments that narrowed the drain, led to inundation of nearby residential colonies and upstream areas.
