Even though the Kabini project has proposed to supply 13 MLD of water to Ramanahalli, Bogadi, Kadakola and Srirampura Panchayat town limits, Mysuru city is unlikely to face any drinking water crisis till June, considering the current storage levels in the reservoirs. With normal rainfall expected, there is no cause for concern, according to data presented at a meeting here on March 2.
However, Mysuru district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa has directed officials to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water in the district after the onset of summer.
Addressing a review meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat hall on March 2, he instructed the officials to activate the Task Force committees at the district and taluk levels. Tahsildars have been asked to prepare a list of villages that may face shortage of drinking water.
The minister further directed officials to review the status of wells drilled in previous years as well as those that are currently operational and prepare a list of private wells. In case of any drinking water crisis, the matter should be brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner and CEO of Zilla Panchayat immediately, he said.
He pointed out that communicable diseases tend to spread in summer and instructed health officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to prevent outbreaks.
Tanveer Sait, Narasimharaja MLA, said officials need to review the functioning of drinking water schemes that are implemented under Jal Jeevan missions and multi-village schemes. He also asked them to hold meetings and prepare a report on measures to be taken in case of drought along with required funds.
Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif and other officials attended the meeting.
