Members of the All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO) and affiliated organizations staged a protest at Ramaswamy Circle here on Tuesday (July 21), condemning the police’s lathi charge and use of tear gas against protesters during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament.

AIDSO district president Chandrakala claimed that the students and youth participating in the march demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged central examination irregularities. She criticized the police for refusing permission for the march despite having been notified well in advance, saying the right to protest was a fundamental democratic right.

The police action was undemocratic: AIDSO

Claiming that the police action was undemocratic, she appealed to students across the country to raise their voice against the Centre’s intervention and resolution of the issue.

All India District Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane (AIMSS) Vice President Seema demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister, alleging that he had failed to ensure transparency in central examinations. She also condemned alleged police excesses against protesters.

All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) district president Sunil described the police action as a “brutal attack” on students and youth and alleged that the Center was trying to quell protests over the alleged leak of the NEET question paper. He called for the National Testing Agency (NTA) to be abolished, claiming it did not conduct exams fairly.

AIDSO District Deputy Nitin, officials of AIDSO, AIDYO and AIMSS along with students from various colleges participated in the demonstration.
