Mysuru is organizing a march for total animal liberation

Hundreds of people gathered outside the old deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday and took part in the Animal Liberation March, calling for an end to the use and exploitation of animals for food, clothing, entertainment and other purposes.

The march and subsequent demonstration focused on total animal liberation rather than simply improving animal welfare standards. Participants raised slogans and carried placards with messages in support of animal liberation.

The march continued to City Hall before returning to the Deputy Commissioner’s old office.

Vasudha, one of the organizers, highlighted the continued use of horses for transport in Mysuru despite the availability of modern vehicles. “Animals are not here to serve humans and they are not our slaves. It is high time that society collectively changed its thinking and moved beyond what we were taught as children,” she said.

According to a press release, the news sparked curiosity among onlookers. Activists also distributed leaflets on animal rights, plant-based nutrition and alternatives to animal products.

Activists called for people to recognize animals as sentient beings and called for an end to their exploitation.

Although Mysuru has seen protests and demonstrations against animal exploitation in the past, the organizers claimed in a report that Saturday’s demonstration in the city attracted many participants. They said they will continue their campaign and work to expand the movement in the coming years.
