Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited has urged the public to observe electrical safety precautions during Deepavali.
In a statement here, the CESC pointed out that many people decorate their homes and shops with electric lights during Deepavali, which is known as the festival of lights.
In this regard, the public has been advised to keep serial lights and electrical wires away from water. The public has also been warned against overloading plug points as this can lead to short circuits. “Keep lamps and diyas away from cables, electrical wires and socket points,” said a statement issued by CESC.
The public has also been advised to avoid lighting crackers near electric poles and transformers. “While bursting firecrackers, ensure that you remain alert near electric poles and transformers and avoid lighting crackers near such areas,” the statement said.
Children have been advised to stay away from electrical appliances. Lighting of diyas or bursting of crackers by children should be done under the supervision of adults, the CESC said.
CESC Managing Director KM Munigopal Raju appealed to the public to strictly follow the safety guidelines and asked the public to immediately contact the customer care line 1912 in case of any electrical problems or mishaps.
