Satellite pictures from PBC Planet Labs, analyzed by Associated Press, reveal that the strong earthquake hit by Myanmar on Friday was overthrown at the Nayitaw Tower. The pictures taken on Saturday show that the tower was cut from its base, with debris scattered around its remains.
The collapse probably brought air traffic operations at the airport because all radar and electronic systems were directed by the tower. As a result, flights carrying rescue teams from China landed in Yangon a place directly at affected airports in Mandalay and Nayitaw.
It remains unclear whether there were any victims, although the staff was probably present inside when the earthquake hit on Friday.
Increasing number of victims
An earthquake of 7.7, which hit the second largest city of Myanmar, has left extensive devastation. On Saturday, the official number of victims climbed to more than 1,000, as rescue staff continued to recover bodies from the debris.
“The scope of destruction is stunning and we are racing against the time to find the survivors,” said a rescue worker from the affected region.
Bangkok skyscraper collapse
Bangkok continued rescue teams to find 47 missing or imprisoned workers at a place collapsed 33 -story towers. Among them were myanmar workers.
“We always have hope,” said Thai Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. “We’re still working on the clock.”
Continuing rescue efforts
Teams of reaction to emergency situations work to clean residues and provide assistance to the disabled. International efforts for help, especially from China, focus on the provision of stocks and medical assistance to the worst areas.
“We determine for medical assistance and shelter for those who are displaced,” said a spokesman for a humanitarian organization that helps in rescue operations.
The authorities continue to evaluate the full impact of the disaster, while the rescue efforts intensify in the worst affected regions.
