My Sister is a Legend: A Message from Jemimah Rodrigues as Smriti Mandhana Makes History

Jemimah Rodrigues may be out of the Women’s Asia Cup due to injury, but that didn’t stop her from celebrating Smriti Mandhan’s historic feat. The Indian women’s team captain went past Mithali Raj to become the highest run scorer in the history of women’s cricket after she scored a magnificent 124 against Hong Kong China in a match on Thursday, September 3.

The Indian opener brought up her century in just 57 deliveries and etched her name in the record books as the first Indian woman to register more than one T20I hundred. The knock also took her tally of international centuries to 18, moving her ahead of Australia’s Meg Lanning and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who both have 17.

With her knocking, she surpassed Mithali’s 10868 runs and helped India post 193 against Hong Kong China. Mandhana ended her knock with a total of 10,880 runs to her name.

Jemimah, who shares a close bond with Mandhana, posted two stories on Instagram. In the first, she identified the Indian opener as her sister and called her a legend.

In the second, Jemimah decided to use the famous MS Dhoni meme and point to Mandhana’s number 18 jersey.

MITHALI RAJ PRAISES MANDHANA

Mithali headed to X to tip her hat to Mandhana. The Indian legend said she was proud to see Mandhana break her record and tipped her to continue breaking records.

“Well deserved @mandhana_smriti! I’ve watched you grow from a young player to one of the best batsmen India has produced. To see you break my record to become the highest run-scorer in international cricket is a moment I’m really proud of. Here’s to many more runs and milestones. Keep it up!” said Mithali on X. Mandhana became the first Indian batsman to score women’s T20I multiple hundreds in history.
