MVD suspends licenses of three bus workers in Kozhikode over alleged brawl

The Kozhikode Regional Transport Authority (RTO) has suspended the licenses of two bus drivers and a conductor for six months following an alleged public brawl over bus timings near Thondayad. The alleged incident happened on September 11, 2026.

According to Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) sources, there was an argument between the bus staff over the scheduled times. It later escalated into a physical confrontation in the middle of the road, causing significant traffic disruption.

The incident reportedly left passengers and the public upset for hours. Images of the confrontation were widely circulated on social media, prompting strong public criticism.

The MVD said action was taken against erring bus staff after they violated traffic rules and created a law and order problem.

Apart from suspending their licences, the RTO ordered the three individuals to attend mandatory road safety and driver awareness courses at a dedicated driver training centre.

Officials said such behavior by bus staff on public roads would not be tolerated and that control would be stepped up.
