Talacauvery, the place of birth of the Cauver River, honors millions across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, is now on Wednesday’s controversy of land promotion.
Talacauvery near Bhagamandaly in the district of Kodag, known for his cultural, spiritual and ecological significance, was reported by the deputy Commissioner in the district of the Kodag district of the extensive occupation of land.
The report prepared after the complaint filed at Karnataka Lokayukta from Kodag Ecikarana Rang, the environmental group, reveals that more than 40 individuals intervened approximately 50 acres belonging to the Muzrai department, which oversees the qualities associated with temples and religious institutions. The District Administration also indicated that a survey of 18.5 hectares is still ongoing to identify further interventions in the temples of Talacauvera and Bhagamandala.
According to Kodag members of the Ecikarana Ranga, it includes an intervention in the soil lying in the environmentally sensitive area of Brahmagiri Hills, where Cauveries come from.
After years of inactivity, Kodaga Ranga, a local organization, approached Lokayukta after years of inactivity. After the complaint, a detailed land survey was ordered to assess the extent of the intervention in the Talaacauvera and Bhagamandala.
“Ignored years”
Thamoo Poovaiah, a member of the Ecikarana Ranga, said in an interview with the Hinduist that the problem has persisted for more than ten years. “We have raised concerns about illegal interventions in Talacauvera and Bhagamandala for years, but the authorities have constantly ignore the matter. These are sacred places and it is desperate to see that they are used for personal and commercial profits,” he said.
Mr. Poovaiah claimed that local residents and entrepreneurs, including the owner of the resort from Kerala, were involved in the intervention. He recalled that in 2012 a working group for investigating the problem was created and the survey conducted in 2013 identified 71 cases of penetration. However, the findings of this survey reportedly disappeared, which increased the suspicion of the influence and interference of powerful individuals. “Some influential people have ensured that the matter has never seen daylight. Therefore, we had no choice but to approach Lokayukta,” Pooovaiah added.
After a complaint in January 2023, Lokayukta ordered the administration of the Kodag district to conduct a comprehensive survey and present a message. Since then, officials have completed a significant part of the work and have identified dozens of interventions in the temple country, but the final evaluation remains waiting.
The survey is still in progress
When he was contacted, the representative of the Kodag Commissioner Venkat Raja confirmed that the survey was still ongoing. “We got complaints about illegal intervention in the temples of Talacauvera and Bhagamandala. The survey is carried out carefully and will be undertaken against those who have found in compliance with the law,” Hindu said.
Meanwhile, Kodaga Ranga urged the district administration to act quickly on the basis of the survey results. “The report clearly identifies 40 individuals who interfered with the country of Muzrai. We are confused why no measures have been initiated yet. Administration must not be postponed further,” the members said.
