India seemingly denied President Donald Trump’s assertion that the new Delhi offered a trade agreement with the zero tariff of Washington, while the Minister of External Affairs with Jaishankar said business interviews were still ongoing.
Jaishankar spoke with reporters on Thursday after Trump’s claim and said that the negotiations were complicated.
“Between India and the US are taking place. This is a complicated negotiation. Nothing will decide until everything is,” he said.
The Minister of the Union added that any judgment on the probable business agreement of India-USA would be “premature” until the actual agreement is concluded.
“Any commercial agreement must be mutually beneficial; they must work for both countries. That would be our expectations from a business agreement. As long as it is done, any judgment of it would be premature,” he told reporters.
What did Donald Trump claim?
Previously, US President Donald Trump said today that India had offered an agreement with “basically zero tariffs” to American goods.
“They offered us an agreement where we are basically willing to charge us literally no tariff,” said President Trump at addressing a press conference in Doha.
However, he did not provide any specifics on the alleged agreement.
Trump’s administration 2 April imposed 26 % mutual tariff on Indian imports to the US as part of its mega notification of sweeping new doses. A week later, US President India and other countries took a 90 -day break to conclude trade agreements and lower tariffs. Since then, the new Deli has been trying to conclude a business agreement with Washington to reduce its tariffs as the main business partner.
The opposition throws itself
After a great claim by Donald Trump, Congress emerged on Wednesday.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh raised questions about Trump’s claims. In this matter, he also questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Minister of Commerce is in Washington DC and President Trump has made another big announcement from Doha. Is it quite Chuppi from our PM. What did he agree and what links between this and the stop of the Sindoor operation?” Ramesh posted on X.
Congress deputy Manish Tewari questioned the trade policy of the central government led by BJP and demanded an explicit response of the government.
In a post on the Social Media on X, Tewari said, “Is it the fact that India offered the US a US -zero agreement? Does this require an explicit response from the government?”
