US President Donald Trump was Apple warning on Friday and threatened 25 % of the iPhone tariff that is not made in America.
In the Social Trump paper, Trump threatened that if phones were sold in the USA produced in India or anywhere else, Apple must pay a 25 percent Washington tariff.
“I have long informed Tim Cook about Apple that I expect their iPhone, which will be sold in the United States, will be made and built in the United States, not in India or anywhere else,” he said in the post.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously said that Apple will receive most of the iPhone sold in the US from India in the quarter of June.
“If this is not the case, Apple must be paid to the US at least 25%. Thank you for your attention,” Trump added.
The manufacturer’s shares dropped by 4 percent to reports in Premarket Trading, according to Bloomberg.
The threat of storage of 25 % of tariffs on foreign iPhone sold in the US could lead to a sharp increase in the prices of smartphones in America, a country where this particular product mainly uses. This could also potentially damage Apple’s sales and profits, one of the leading US technology companies.
Trump’s conflict with Apple with India
Apple produces most of its phones in China, while some of them are now produced in India. After sweeping new tariffs Donald Trump to China, however, Tim Cook CEO tried to move the production of iPhone to India because it regulates the supply chains.
However, this did not sit well with the US President, who during his tour last week revealed his “little problem” with Tim Cook.
“I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” Trump said about his interview with Apple CEO in Doha. “I told him, Tim, you’re my friend. I treated you very well. You’re coming with $ 500 billion (investment). But now I hear you build all over India. I don’t want you to build in India if you want to take care of India.”
However, the sources of PTI quoted that Apple’s business in India would remain intact.
“Apple said its investment plans in India are intact and suggest that India should be the main production base for its products,” said the source that the press agency said.
Trump suggested that Apple can produce its products in India for the Indian market. But produced in India sold in the US, however, must stop. “If you want, you can build in India, take care of India.”
