Muslim Youth League urges Education Minister not to change stance on Prime Minister SHRI
The Muslim Youth League (MYL) has expressed strong concern and displeasure over the United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s stance on the PM SHRI scheme.
As a form of protest, the MYL Malappuram constituency committee organized a program in Malappuram on Thursday evening (18 June 2026). She sent a letter to General Education Minister N. Samsudheen urging the government not to change the UDF’s stand on the scheme.
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), which currently holds the portfolio of general education in the UDF cabinet, had earlier taken a strong stand against PM SHRI when the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government struck a deal with the Center to take up the initiative. Now under the UDF government, the issue of PM SHRI in Kerala continues to be politically sensitive, especially as the IUML oversees the general education department.
The government has set up a cabinet sub-committee to examine and implement the scheme. Mr. Samsudheen heads the committee, which includes Higher Education Minister Roji M. John, Tourism Minister PC Vishnunadh and Excise Minister M. Liju.
MYL Malappuram constituency president Shafi Kadengal, general secretary Ummerkutty Morayur, treasurer Sahal Vadakkumuri and executive committee members Afeef Paravath, CP Sadikali, Subair Moozhikkal, Nabeel Arimbra, Samad Poothanaparamba, Vahid Morayur and Hafid Pari led the protest by sending an opposition letter.
