Raghuvanki’s body was restored last month, after he and his wife Sonam were announced that they were in the state during the holidays. Raja’s older brother Vipin Raghuvanki, who was present on the spot, said the Times of India: “I feel that my brother’s soul has not yet found peace, and therefore I held Puja where Raja murdered me by his wife Sonam and her colleagues.”
He also demanded steps against the accused and said, “We require rapid justice. Those who conspired and killed our Raja must not walk freely.”
The case shocked people across the country. What initially seemed to be a case of a missing couple turned out to be a planned murder.
Raja and Sonam, who married on May 11, disappeared on May 23 on the honeymoon in Shillong. A few days later, Raja’s body was found in a deep ravine in the Sohra district in East Khasi Hills. Sonam was later watched to a road restaurant in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
The police said Sonam reportedly portrayed Rajah’s murder with his lover Raj Kushwah. Three others – Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi – allegedly helped in a crime.
All four accused were arrested and remained in judicial custody.
