Meghalaya has banned renting private vehicles-as two-wheelers and a four-wheeler-for-commercial use to ensure tourist security. The Directive comes as a result of the case of the murder of Raja Raghuvanki.
The Commissioner of Transport Commissioner issued an order on 13 June 2025 in this respect. Therefore, no individual or agency is legally entitled to offer private vehicles for rent in the state.
NDTV said David D. Sangma, a transport commissioner, said that violars would face serious consequences, including fines, vehicle seizures and potential imprisonment.
Police cheese (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, said to Praad: “We received an order from the transport commissioner and activated all our ground staff and traffic staff. Anyone who found that he violates the provisions during inspection will face strict negotiations under the Motor Vehicle Act,” NDTV said.
“We indicate vehicles coming from the outside and inside the city. We have deployed our traffic staff in the main places such as Mawlai, MES intersection and tourist aspects.

Case of murder Raja Raghuvanki
Raja Raghuvanki, an entrepreneur based in Indore, was reportedly killed by his wife Sonam and three men, while the couple were on the honeymoon to Meghalaya.
On Tuesday, the Police Police Investigation Team reconstructed the scene in Sohra in the presence of the accused Sonama RaghuvanShi and three other three in his investigation by Raja RaghuvanShi.
The police superintendent, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, said the reconstruction of the crime scene was very successful because the police “now got a very clear picture”.
Syiem, with details of the reconstruction of the crime scene, stated that another machete used to murder Raja Raghuvansehi must still be obtained.

When he talked to the media, Syia also said, “We found out what happened to Raja’s mobile phone. He was damaged by Sonam and then Vishal. The whole thing was played and also their departure.”
“We found that the victim was hit by a weapon … The first intervention was Vishal aka Vicky … When Raja was hit and blood came out, Sonam moved from the place. Three accusations threw the body down,” he added.
