Tyler James Robinson, 22, from Washington, Utah, was charged with shooting influential conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, was taken into custody about 33 hours after shooting on Thursday evening.
The agency received more than 11,000 tips on Friday morning, most of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, said FBI director.
“History will dictate if it is a turning point for our country,” Cox continued, “but each of us will choose right now if it is a turning point for us.”
Governor Spencer Cox dealt with a highly politicized response to shooting – an incident that was captured on the video, widely shared on social media and viewed it millions – framed it as part of a deeper and systemic problem in society.
Kirk, 31, close to US President Donald Trump, who helped build Republican support among young voters in 2024, was killed by a single shot fired from the roof when he spoke on stage during an outdoor campus attended by 3,000 people. Trump called the shooting of a “abominable assassination”.

He noted that this problem is not exclusive for any individual political party, but rather reflects a wider cultural and social collapse.
“Social media,” he said, “there is cancer in our society right now. And I would encourage people to log out, turn off, touch the grass, hugged a family member.”

Kirk, co -founder and president of the conservative student group Turning Point USA, began his career in right -wing politics as a teenager.
